Directorate of Labor Inspection
In Norway the Directorate of Labor Inspection, «Direktoratet for arbeidstilsynet», is a is a government agency subject to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and has overall responsibility for the Labor Inspectorate. It is responsible for, among other things, overall strategies, plans, development of laws and regulations, and communication with key partners.
The Labor Inspectorate oversees that private and public enterprises comply with the requirements of the Working Environment Act, the Generalization Act, the Holiday Act and parts of the Tobacco Damage Act. The Working Environment Act shall ensure a good working environment, safe and fair employment, an inclusive working life and cooperation between employees (students in WBL and apprentices) and employers. The Education Act explains how young workers should be mentored and how the workplace should be organized. The Holiday Act helps to decide when and where the holiday can be taken as well as the continuous length of the holiday. The Education Act describes especially young workers situation at work. The act describes how long a working day can be, as well as how much overtime youth can work. It also covers details about youth under 18 who are in education.
All young people who are undergoing training are entitled to the same rights as a regular worker. Youth also have the same insurance as other employees. The contract for a young worker is usually time-limited.
